Marjorie Atwood is a contemporary painter currently based in Oklahoma who has studied art in New York and San Francisco. After graduating from Holland Hall high school in Tulsa, she moved to New York where she earned a bachelor’s degree from Sarah Lawrence College while also studying at Parson’s School of Design. At Sarah Lawrence she studied for 4 years with renowned Japanese printmaker, Ansai Uchima. His aesthetic and discipline have profoundly influenced her compositions as well as her studio practices. Through the use of her signature gold and silver leaf backgrounds and exceptional use of pattern, Marjorie incorporates the female figure in various forms that represent the mythical and contemporary woman in various states of existence. She has had solo shows at the Holliman Gallery, the PAC Gallery and the MA Doran Gallery in Tulsa as well as being represented by the JRB Gallery in Oklahoma City. Other exhibition venues include Gallery North in Stony Brook, NY; DeVorzon Gallery in Los Angeles, CA; among others.
