Julie Berkowitz is a ceramic artist and educator who lives and works in Chapel Hill, NC. Julie focuses her work on reminding us of our connection to nature and the world around us. She draws inspiration from her childhood growing up in the Pennsylvania countryside, playing on the shores of Lake Erie, and currently living in the woods of North Carolina. The connection to the earth and the world around us is kept alive through Julie’s techniques of incorporating the clay with textures, surface decorations, and colors bringing the entire natural world together in her nature inspired pieces of functional art. Julie wants people to be able to use her pieces daily, feeling and keeping that connection with nature alive. Julie received her B.A. of Art Education from Kent State University. It was there that her love of clay and her sharing of art with others was born. After completing her degree Julie moved to North Carolina where she taught and continued her exploration of clay as a medium. Currently, Julie is the owner of Julie Berkowitz Ceramics studio where she creates functional pottery and provides ceramic education to the local community.
