Since 1995 Joe Nicoletti has been the creative force behind the success of Santa Monica, Calif.,-based Chameleon Paintworks Inc. As one of the west coast’s leading design-oriented paint contractors, Nicoletti has transformed some of the region’s most beautiful and architecturally significant homes and commercial spaces. He draws from a variety of artistic influences and extensive knowledge of modern materials to find solutions that best transform the client’s needs into color and texture. This creative journey has led Joe into many other aspects of saying “yes” to creative assignments including project management, estate management, organizing, art direction, photography and even creating visual biographies for clients. “ He just loves to embrace opportunity.”
In every project, Nicoletti plays a critical role interpreting the customer’s stylistic and aesthetic goals by working with clients, architects and designers during the planning and design phase, through to the selection of surfaces, colors and themes. His ultimate goal is to enhance the architectural intentions of physical space. He does this by using the language of color , murals, decorative plasters, papers or contemporary unusual techniques by adding anything to paint. “He understands well how we look and feel about a physical space and how to transform it, including reducing the visual critical mass of some of our not so desirable looking buildings” say’s a client.
Nicoletti apprenticed with famed master painter A.T. Heinsbergen, who says of his former student: "Joe's sense of color and talent for innovation are readily apparent in all his projects. His strong artistic sensibilities, combined with a broad knowledge of progressive techniques and modern materials, enables him to handle everything from intimate residential surroundings to more expansive corporate and even industrial spaces.” “Joe is easily motivated and enjoys working well with people”
Among Nicoletti’s first notable projects was the 1997 restoration of the ceilings in Los Angeles City Hall, originally designed by Heinsbergen himself in 1925. Joe’s work has been showcased in numerous publications, including Architectural Digest, LA Style, Interior Design, House and Garden, House Beautiful, Buzz Magazine, The Los Angeles Times and The New York Times as well as his online presence.
Every craftsman and team member that Chameleon employs and collaborates with has been hand-picked and trained by Joe to ensure quality and integrity of every project. Chameleon is licensed, bonded and as professional artists.
Ultimately, Nicoletti’s interest remains understanding how colour transforms a community and how it motivates its behavior and inspires commerce and even community respect, Chameleon Paintworks Inc remains passionate about the way individuals, cities and cultures are affected by the Art of the Painted finish.
Among one of Nicoletti’s favorite quotes is by Henry David Thoreau.
“ It is something to paint a particular picture or to carve a statue, and so it is to make a few objects beautiful; but it is far more glorious to carve and paint the very medium through which we look, which morally we can do. To affect the quality of the day, that is the highest of the arts”.
