Atelier Taftique

Florence, Italy

"I paint with yarn, translating traditional tufting and embroidery techniques into modern artworks and unique decorative elements"
In her atelier Taftique in Florence, Dutch artist Jules Vissers translates, with stunning creativity, the traditional tufting technique into modern artworks. She designs and creates hand-tufted tapestries, using high-quality Italian yarns that she personally selects in the textile district of Prato.
Her art pays homage to nature using only natural yarns and those derived from recycled fibers. She has been living in Italy since 1998 and graduated “cum laude” in Art Textiles at the Florence Art Academy. She participates regularly in art and design worldwide events such as: Dubai Design Week, Milan Design Week and Florence Biennale.
She is inspired by nature and the by all kinds of classical art that surrounds her here in Italy. She is very fond of some artistic movements, dating the beginning of 20th century, such as Cubism and Art Deco. She often uses complementary colors and curved geometric forms, exploring the interaction between different textures and their three-dimensional effects. Indeed she has developed her own style between abstract and figurative works. In her latter works, she evokes more playful and intimate scenes, with a somehow mythological allure. In her pure abstract works there is a more explicit exploration of the varying textures and their three-dimensional effect.
