Urban Canvases
120 W 42nd St, New York 10036, NY
These 75,000-square-foot glass and steel structures were designed by the architectural firm of Moed de Armas & Shannon. From the street, these boldly protruding blocks look like two separate structures but the two sides are actually united underground—and extend back at a right angle, occupying a publicly owned, private space. The architectural forms and flashing LED screens outside, draw visitors to the inside retail spaces.
