For 25 years, The Alpha Workshops has been a major artisanal resource for the interior design and architectural community. The nonprofit design collective was modeled on the famed Omega Workshops, the Wiener Werkstätte, the Bauhaus, and the collaborative artisan workrooms of the American Arts & Crafts movement. Alpha’s award-winning production studios offer handmade wallpapers, custom decorative paint and plaster finishes, gilding, and on-site mural and sculptural installations.
In addition to continuing the legacy of artisanal handcraft, The Alpha Workshops remains the nation's only organization dedicated to providing free education in the decorative arts to vulnerable adults. The Alpha Workshops Studio School, licensed by the New York State Department of Education, offers instruction in marketable creative techniques, work readiness skills, and career development to individuals with disabilities or other disadvantages.
Hand-painted custom wallpaper remains one of Alpha’s signature products; its first collection, launched in 2001, has since been selected for inclusion in The Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum.
