I’m Christina, a Midwest-born and raised artist, designer, and illustrator. I work between my studio in the Walker’s Point neighborhood of Milwaukee, my home in Wauwatosa, and on-site for murals and special projects. I started Persika Design Co. in the winter of 2016 with my first official product being my calendars – I’m a huge calendar nerd and planner lover. Although my full name is Christina Scheppmann Thomas, I paint under the pseudonym Christina Persika.
My work centers around community healing, spirituality, nature, and mental health. I’m all about uncovering moments of transcendent joy. I create with 2-D mixed-media, using a lot of watercolor, gouache, acrylic, colored pencil – whatever I can get my hands on, really. My style has been influenced by my love for Scandinavian design, 60s/70s nostalgia, Fauvism, Outsider Art, and Modernism.
My aim is to make inclusive art that is accessible and life-giving for everyone by meeting the worlds of design and fine art. I hope when you interact with my work you find whimsy, delicious color palettes, peace, comfort, and unexpected waves of joy.
Feel free to reach out! I count everyone a friend. Christina holds a Bachelor’s degree in Studio Art and a Master’s degree in Business Management both from The University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. Outside of her studio practice, Christina freelances as a social media manager, designer, and consultant for other artists and creative businesses. Her mission in this work is to help creative-minded entrepreneurs understand how to promote and market themselves in meaningful and impactful ways.
