Annie Hamel

Montreal, Canada

"I am interested in the pictorial representation of patterns and textile materials of various origins, their symbolic values, and the senses created by their juxtaposition and context. My creations revisit the traditional notions of trompe-l'œil (optical illusion) to create textile landscapes from which emanates an enveloping atmosphere. My works take the shape of organic patchworks: their sampled components differ in patterns, colors and origins. They express coherent and structured ensembles. I believe that painting a work in the public space is a real privilege. Also, each project develops and takes its place in a unique way."
I come from Quebec City and I live and practice in Montreal since 2006. I hold a DESS in Management of Cultural Organizations from HEC Montréal, and I obtained my Bachelor degree in Visual Arts at Laval University in 2002. I've done my first mural in 2000. I’m a professional member of the Conseil des métiers d'art du Québec since 2005, an organization that recognizes mural art as a profession.

I am mainly dedicated to mural art since the end of my Bachelor's degree in visual arts. I have accomplished or participated in the realization of dozens of large-format projects, as site and team manager, designer, teacher or assistant. I have realized many large-scale projects, many of them in partnership with MU organization from Montreal. I have also worked for various companies operating in the field of mural art, decorative arts and scenic scenery. On the international scene, I was invited in 2001 by the city of Namur in Belgium to paint a collaborative work. In 2005, I have done a mural art training at Cité-Création, in Oullins, France. In 2006 and 2019, I was invited to Mexico City to lead the realization of collaborative murals for the Faro de Oriente Cultural Center. I also participated in the Street Art 2017 event of Robespierre Gallery in Grande-Synthe, the Festival Internacional de Arte Urbano Barrio Vivo and the CIMU Festival in Mexico City in 2019. I also participated this year in the Imagine Mural Festival of Louisville, Kentucky.
Wescover creator since 2019
