Meet the Creator

Coco Dolle is a New York-based artist and curator whose work explores themes of identity and the body. With a multimedia approach to drawing, photography, video and movement, Dolle’s practice challenges the confines of social stereotypes to articulate a vision of female empowerment. Trained in modern dance in Avignon and Paris, Coco studied painting with Larry Poons at The Art Student’s League of New York while attending the Sunday Salons of late sculptor Louise Bourgeois, further modeling for acclaimed artists including painter Alex Katz and punk rock performer Kembra Pfahler. Over the past decade, Coco has fashioned her projects from pop art concepts into social territories and developed a cross-disciplinary mode of working that merges the roles of artist, curator and performer. In 2008, she founded her performance troupe Legacy Fatale, built on notions of mysticism and punk leadership, and in 2014 she started a feminist curatorial practice under the moniker, Milk and Night.

Her work has been exhibited and performed internationally at The Queens Museum (NY), Czech Center (NYC), Manchester Wonder Woman Festival (UK), Disjecta Contemporary Art Center (Portland, OR), Nagoya Art (Japan), BAM (NYC), AIOP Festival (NYC), Grace Exhibition Space (Brooklyn), Berkeley Museum (CA), SPRING/BREAK Art Show (NY), Catinca Tabacaru Gallery (NYC), Mary Ryan Gallery (NYC), Andrew Edlin Gallery (NYC), Yukiko Kawase Galerie (France) and Deitch Projects Art Parade (NYC). Coco Dolle has been an artist-in-residence at C:3 Initiatives (Portland, US), British Council/Alexandra Arts (UK) and Grace Exhibition Space (NYC).

Her work has been featured in numerous publications including Forbes Magazine, ArtForum, ArtNews, Creators Project, Vice Magazine, W Magazine, The New York Times, The New York Sun, Time Out New York, Brooklyn Rail, NY Observer and Purple Art.

Her works feature in private and corporate collections in the USA, Europe and Japan.

Coco Dolle is of French/Austrian descent, born and raised in Avignon, France. She presently lives and works in Brooklyn with her daughter Noor Katarina.
