Item details

Isuka (meaning sand in Telugu)

This vase is part of my ongoing SANDSCAPE collection which is made with mixed clays and sand that I collect on my travels around Scotland.

The sand gives every piece its own character, texture, pattern and colour. The collection captures the Scottish coastal landscape and the earthy colours of the natural environment in different seasons.

SIZE approx.
Height 10cm
Width 8cm

My work is fired to 1240°C and is therefore non porous and dishwasher safe, although hand washing is recommended to prolong the life of every piece.

Stoneware & porcelain ceramics inspired by nature and landscape

Julija Pustovrh is a Slovenian born artist now living and working in Edinburgh, UK.

Her background is in Landscape Architecture with emphasis on model-making and 3D presentations. Since her graduation in 2014 she has been working on various collaborations and individual projects spanning from urban design, woodwork, printmaking, stained glass art and more recently focusing on ceramics.

Julija has always drawn inspiration from nature. Her work explores the fine line between real and imaginary plant worlds, looking at forms, structures and patterns in micro and macro scales, transformations in time and space as well as giving her pieces some kind of function and use.

Currently Julija is working on an ongoing project exploring the connection between Scottish landscapes and coastal features. She has been collecting sand from remote coasts of Scotland and is incorporating the sands in her new body of work - SANDSCAPES 2019/20.

Since August 2017 she is a member at the Edinburgh Ceramics Workshop.
In August 2019 she became the ceramics studio technician at ECW and helped develop the new teaching studio at the time of the expansion of the ECW in November 2019.
