Originally from Portland, Claire Bandfield is a self taught artist who works with hand cast stone. Claire lives on Prune Hill, an extinct volcanic vent overlooking the Columbia River Gorge. Her life in the outdoors, along rivers and cabins in the woods near and around Portland with her plant loving family, has influenced her current work.
With an appreciation for constructing organic objects with stone, her custom forms are inspired by modern architecture and traditional Japanese gardens. The pieces are about connecting opposites, creating pots that could be found in Fred Flintstones front yard or George Jetsons living room.
