I re-imagine can-tabs in a way that rescripts the original intention of their branding so that they are no longer in service to consumerism. In their new incarnation the can-tabs have a baroque, upcycled aesthetic that playfully transcends their utility. When this suspended sculpture made from tens of thousands of reflective tabs begin to rotate slowly, shimmering moiré patterns appear and soothe with soft glimmers, activating a visual sensory experience that brings us back to our center. Sensory experiences quell anxiety, awaken our sense of wonder, and provide a healing counterpoint to our reality of overstimulation.
This sensory artwork rotates slowly- at 1 rpm, is made from 60k+post-consumer can-tabs, weighs 80lbs and is suspended from a silent ceiling mounted motor.
