Keep It Together was inspired by the island topography of Aruba. An arid desert island, Aruba is well maintained in areas of high traffic, while rough boulders and cliffs fill the areas uninhabited by residents.

This piece is an overall female silhouette created by islands of clay. Islands closer to the mind are smooth and close together representing prioritized responsibilities. As ideas, dreams, and goals move farther away from the mind, color fades and and the islands become jagged and rough.

Topography inspired sculpture and installation connecting nature and human experience.

Tyra Johnson was born in San Antonio, Texas. As a child in a military family she relocated often. Her time spent in Germany and Colorado resulted in a love of nature and outdoor activities. From location to location, she found herself involved in visual, theater, and musical arts. A natural creative, she carried a curiosity and multicultural perspective into adulthood.

Tyra is a self taught interdisciplinary artist and designer. Her artistic journey began with mixed media painting and transformed into a passion for sculpture, interior design, and architecture. A common thread in her work is topographical influence. All sculptures, when viewed from various angles, reflect landscapes while overall silhouettes depict human anatomy. This approach links her environmental passions with a desire to emphasize aspects of the human experience.

Tyra's work has been exhibited in Dallas, TX; Chicago, IL; and, Brooklyn, NY. She has created various custom designs and commissions for individuals and business organizations.
