The butterfly installation is located in a busy lobby hallway. It is designed to provide a moment of colorful distraction for the children passing by. Four fused glass panels feature images of local butterflies, as well as colorful canes, brilliant dichroic glass, and silver or gold accents. At the top of each panel are glass butterflies flying upward that transition into individually mounted butterflies on the wall. This design is modular, and the number of panels and the position of the free-flying butterflies can be changed as needed. The panels mount easily to a curved wall, and with good lighting the butterflies cast colorful shadows below.
These panels can be customized. This project uses local butterflies and I have made other panels with dragonflies, fish, frogs, and flowers.
