Surahi - Sculptures

Item details

Surahi is a vessel inspired by the process of making moodas, a low stool native to North and North East India. This project aims to look at the craft process in a contemporary context and imagine what new approaches to established methods can result in. The design process can be deconstructed into two contrary approaches. One, an inquiry into the formal aspects and explorations in geometry and shape, and two, an inquiry into the making process and tweaking it to achieve a specific form. The result is a vessel, the form stacked vertically to reference a traditional Indian water carafe-a Surahi.
