For this projet I explored the fluid and the frozen for the entrance of a sports complex housing a swimming pool and two ice rinks.
Inspired by breath, and working with the contrast between the worlds of the pool and rink, Surfacing is a sparkling and intriguing work that animates the lobby by the play of refracted light in its glass, and the play of symbolic images it evokes.
Shattered glass discs capture the energy and intensity of the ice rink, and are suspended in a vortex-like array that evokes bubbles rising to the surface of water.
The encapsulation of force, in counterpoint with the serenity of the whole, pursues the recurring contrasts in Eric Sauvé’s sculptures, where strength and delicacy coexist.
