Almanac, was commissioned by the City of Ottawa for an extension to the Francois Dupuis Recreation Centre in Orleans, ON. The piece involves layers of powder coated, laser cut metal with patterns representing wind, water and animals native to the area. The overall shapes are of waxing and waning moons, giving the pieces a contemplative and restful feel that reward repeated viewings. Almanac represents eastern Ottawa’s rich and diverse history while celebrating its flourishing future.

Amy Thompson is an Ottawa based visual artist. She studied Fine Art at York University and graduated with Honours from the Ontario College of Art and Design. Early in her career she began working with appropriated images, drawn to their immediacy and narrative power. Her work explores themes of memory and the natural world through the mediums of drawing, painting sculpture and collage. She has created public art pieces in Ottawa and Vancouver. Her work has been featured on book, magazine and album covers. She has exhibited across Canada, the US and Europe and has been acquired by art collections in Ottawa, Vancouver and Amsterdam. www.amyalice.com
