Westbrook Middle School is constructed directly on the path of The
Cumberland Oxford Canal that ran through the site in the late 1700’s. The canal was used primarily to run logs from inland forests. Sections of the canal still exist today and Return is fabricated from reclaimed logs that sank in the 1700’s. It is made with traditional woodworking techniques and is literally bursting through the floor as if coming up from the canal below.
