Acrylic and laser transfer on unframed canvas with painted edges
My first apartment in California, at the corner of San Juan and Electric in Venice. Venice was still rough around the edges back then, no one wanted to live there really, it was just super affordable—ghetto birds flying overhead most nights because gang territory at one end of the block. The other end was Abbot Kinney before Abbot Kinney became what it is today. But I was young, and I loved it. Living walking distance to the beach? The dream! Every room buzzed with color. The crappy old fridge I painted red, the checkered floor and chalkboard wall in the kitchen. The bathroom, coral. The living room, retro lime and aqua. These pieces are explorations in color-memories that come straight from that time—scrappy, sunlit, a little chaotic, and full of offbeat charm.
