Radix is an original design and not a direct translation of any one shell form or species. Seashells are known symbols of origin, birth, growth, and natural harmony. The word radix translates to root, or origin. Thus, I feel that the sculpture Radix is a poignant symbol of both a starting point and of growth, transcending the concept of time.
The display of this giant bronze shell, with its rough and weathered exterior, its countless layers, and its contrasting soft and seductive interior, is sure to seize the viewer’s attention and prompt contemplation of the mystery of its existence, going far beyond the artwork itself. Confronting its presence compels observers to reflect, perhaps in real awe, on our own existence, our origin, our nature, and our collective passage through the ages.

large scale, expressive, bronze, outdoor, figurative sculpture

The foundation of my work is anchored in the legacy of representational art, fueled by observation and an active reflection on our relationship to the beauty inherent in the natural world. My sculpture has primarily focused on the human form as a means of understanding and expressing human nature. The human form provokes our instincts and speaks to us through our own vivid and tangible vocabulary. Building upon this core work, I have expanded my focus to include reflections on the powerful anatomy and deep historical bonds that we share with animals in the world around us.
