Woven Structure - Public Sculptures
Featured In City Hall Lane, North Charleston, SC
Starts at $20,000
woven, welded and powder coated steel
Woven Structure is a new commissioned sculpture for the North Charleston city hall plaza. The piece is a replacement for Big Water Bottle Basket 2007-2009, another large scale welded steel sculpture that was once in the city’s permanent collection. Where Big Water Bottle basket 2007-2009 was a literal depiction of a bottle of water, Woven Structure is more of an idealized vessel form. The image is drawn from shapes and forms that occur in my sketchbook drawings and within recent temporary installations, particularly; The Eternal Return Piece 2010, The Arkadelphia Piece 2010, and The Cairns Piece 2012. Woven Structure is sited and scaled to relate to the surrounding buildings, the traffic circle and the general design of City Hall Plaza.
