THE DRAGON FAMILY - Public Sculptures

Featured In Balbriggan, Ireland

Handmade

Made In USA

My proposal for this project was to make use of the tradition and history of the school using the mascot/ logo of the Dragon. Rather than a single dragon I propose a Dragon Family.

Academics is illustrated in the form of a large open book that becomes the plinth for the sculpture of the dragons. The book is the symbol of classical learning and can carry the name of the school on the cover along with selected words or a motto.

The dragons come in different sizes relating to the ages of the students. In the sculpture we find the dragons are relating, one to the other, in an active way. Providing in interaction of a small dragon peering down from atop the book at the other small dragon on the ground looking up as if to be saying, "how does one get up there?" The message here is one can rise in education and life through the book and by the book.
