Meet the Creator

Heather Heckel is an illustrator and art educator living in New York. She received her BFA from the Ringling College of Art and Design, and her MAT from the School of Visual Arts. Her illustration clients include Whole Foods Market, Kids Footlocker, JUICE Pharma Worldwide, The Renwick Hotel, Silverstein Properties, Park Slope Reader, Star GFX, The Organic Grill, and ECG Group Inc.

Her children’s book that she wrote and illustrated, What Will Snarl Fig Be? / Nutsy and Her Tree won the 2016 Next Generation Indie Book Award for Best Overall Design in Fiction and a silver medal in the Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards for Best First Book – Picture Book category.

Her work has been published for five years in a row in the juried 3×3 Magazine Professional Illustration Show. During the past two summers, Heather has been awarded four artist-in-residencies through the National Park Service in Arkansas, Connecticut, Washington, and California
