The conservation charity Tusk has launched a London wide art installation curated by Chris Westbrook, to raise public awareness of the plight of the rhino, their conservation work and to raise vital funds for their projects.

Supported by an invited list of internationally respected and collected artists, including Marc Quinn, Gavin Turk, The Chapman Brothers, Harland Miller and Dave White amongst others, 21 specially decorated and embellished rhino sculptures can be found on a trail around London. Each rhino is generously sponsored by a Tusk supporter or partner.

Forevermark has partnered with contemporary British Artist Dave White, who dedicates his work to celebrating popular culture and interpreting emotive issues. Of his rhino design, which he has titled Fragile, Dave White says, “Reflecting a realistic vision from a distance, with an abstraction of expressive paint marks upon closer viewing, my work represents the fragile balance of order and chaos in the natural world and the impact that we are having on our environment. I hope that by inspiring generations of all ages with this project, it will be one small positive step to support Tusk in their vital work protecting endangered species.”

Charlie Mayhew, Tusk’s CEO said; “We’re at a crisis point where the threat to rhino from poaching means a very real risk of losing this near prehistoric species forever to extinction. Tusk is incredibly grateful to all the amazing artists, generous sponsors and partners involved in the Tusk Rhino Trail for joining forces with us to work toward a future for rhino and other threatened species across Africa. Through the Trail we hope to inspire as many people as possible to join us in the fight.”

British Contemporary Artist

Dave White is a contemporary British Artist who dedicates his work to celebrating popular culture and interpreting emotive issues. White graduated with a BA (Hons) Fine Art (Painting) at Liverpool John Moores University and has enjoyed success from the inception of his career, with selection for the Northern Graduates exhibition at the Royal College of Art in 1994, whilst also debuting at Sotheby’s London and international art fairs.

White pioneered the 'Sneaker Art' movement in 2002, with the execution of pop art-inspired sneaker oil portraits, leading to long term collaborations with Nike and Brand Jordan which continue to this day. White is one of a handful of artists to have his own signature Jordan releases. In 2016 White collaborated on an international signature sneaker project with Size? x Nike for the AM95 DW, depicting both the Rabbit and Fox artworks from the Albion Collection, which was released in the UK with Size?, Beams Tokyo and Kith, New York with a bespoke collab tee project. Phillips New York celebrated this project in their Tongue + Chic sneaker exhibition in 2018, handpicking 20 artists to celebrate, including Kaws, Hirst, and Murakami.

International exhibition career highlights to date include the People’s Square Exhibition Hall (Shanghai) | The Harris Museum | Stockport Art Gallery | Dia Art Centre (New York) | The Walker Art Gallery | Centre for Arts (Rotterdam) | Art Basel Week (Miami) | Truman Brewery (London) | Liverpool International Biennial of Contemporary Art | New Museum of Contemporary Art (New York) on the Project on Creativity with Chuck Close | Hospital Club Gallery (London) and the Goss Michael Foundation (Dallas) for MTV RE: DEFINE with The Future Tense | Solo exhibitions in London, Copenhagen and Los Angeles.

Other notable highlights include a collaboration with MTV to customize an EMA Award for a charity auction in London, launching the Staple Clothing (NY) collab collection, BT ArtBox (London), a feature on The Brit List courtesy of Shortlist Magazine and Harpers Bazaar special art edition (Asia). Loughran Gallery exhibitions include The 'Albion' collection featuring a customized E-Type Jaguar (a hand-painted commission), as featured on London Live television. Fadwebsite described it as one of the top five exhibitions to see during Frieze week.

Whilst White has pursued many subject matters over the last twenty years, for the last decade he has been focussed on environmental issues by promoting endangered species with his signature expressive portraits. With charitable collaborations and donations of work, he has supported Virunga National Park, Tusk, Rainforest Foundation UK, to name but a few.

White created a hand-painted Rhino for Tusk which installed for a month on New Bond Street in London and auctioned at Christie's alongside works by Harland Miller, Marc Quinn, Gavin Turk, and The Chapman Brothers. White was included in MTV RE: DEFINE Gala Auction at the Goss Michael Foundation, Dallas and had his debut solo exhibition in Tokyo with an accompanying collab with Atmos, Japan. Dave White continues to work with galleries internationally and special projects will be announced on social media @davewhitestudio.
