Item details

Description: The form of the work is based on the path of the sun over Ft. Collins. The design process began with a symmetrical form. Progressive layers of metal matrix geometry were added to this shape, each layer being drawn toward the path of the sun. Solar cells and LED lights are suspended within the dome’s matrix allowing the structure to create its own energy and emit light. Using energy stored during the day, the LED lights begin to glow at sundown and last throughout the evening and night, softly changing color. The work is also meant to reference a gazebo-like structure that occupied Sheldon Lake in the early 1900’s.
