California Dreaming

Standard guest rooms at the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown feature custom vinyl mural reproductions of photographer Jeffrey Milstein's "California Dreaming" series.
Milstein has done similar aerial series, such as "Flying Over New York," "Flying Over LA," and "Flying Over Container Ports," to create panoramic images that are by turns iconic and emblematic of the modern world.

Meet the Creator

The spare, almost anatomical photographs of Jeffrey Milstein display his fascination with modern aircrafts as the culmination of achievements in engineering and design. Using a high-resolution digital camera carefully positioned at the end of a runway, he photographs the planes as they speed past him overhead, capturing pristine, vibrant views that, taken together, function as a modern-day typology. Milstein’s other occupations as architect, graphic designer, and private pilot all contribute to his signature approach to photography, which also takes on political and cultural weight in the post-9/11 era.

Milstein’s work has been published in numerous newspapers, magazines, and other periodicals, including The New York Times, the Daily Mail, Elle Décor, Esquire, Fortune, Time, the Los Angeles Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, and Wired. His work can be seen at LACMA, the Smithsonian Museum, Washington, DC, the George Eastman House, and the Akron Art Museum.”
