This mural is in the entryway of the Pacific Islander Wellness Initiative office, which specializes in mental wellness services for the Pasifika community in Alameda County. This design includes traditional Pasifika Tatau (tattoo) motifs from multiple islands including Samoa, Hawaii, Tonga, Fiji, and Papua New Guinea so that all who enter the space feel included, represented and welcome. The design is an abstract representation of the sun over the ocean, a familiar site for Pasifika people, in the hopes that those seeking mental wellness counseling feel the sense of home and safety.
