Sue Averell's art is rich in color, texture and composition.

A professional painter for nearly three decades, Sue Averell’s vibrant and whimsical paintings are renowned for their dramatic color, texture and expressive, flowing lines.

Sue opened a retail gallery space in 2016. In addition to her work, visitors can see samples from several fantastic artists. She is connected directly to 100's of artists worldwide, helping you to find exactly what you are looking for.

Sue Averell grew up in Southern California. She attended Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California where she gained an in-depth knowledge of the importance of drawing, composition, painting technique, and color theory.

Averell’s style began to emerge in 1999 after leasing a large studio space in San Francisco. The open space and secluded location allowed her the necessary solitude to work on large scale pieces, something that had been calling to Sue for years. She soon had a growing collection of large paintings and drawings.

In 2001 Sue’s Urban Landscape series was presented by North Beach Gallery in San Francisco. Since then her Urban Landscape and Botanical works have been sold in galleries across the country. Her paintings are included collections in the US, London, Switzerland, France, Germany, Thailand, Singapore, Israel, Mexico and Canada. Additionally, Averell is awarded on average 12 commissions annually by both corporate and private collectors.

Much of Averell’s work explores a common theme of water, an interesting juxtaposition to the man-made urban environment. In 2013 Sue started a new abstract series focusing on land, sky & water. This new body of works allows for more experimentation with the materials and has added another dimension to her artist offerings.

In 2016 Sue began to create a new body of work on three dimensional surfaces. These mixed media pieces are both wall installations and free-standing tower shapes. Her latest series explores a variety of themes including urban landscape, natural landscape, botanical scenes, figurative, and fantasy and incorporate steel, paint and ceramics to describe the visual story. Sue Averell’s impressive and ever-evolving body of work continually captivates collectors. This new series is no exception and several are now part of private collections in the United States and Canada.

When asked how she keeps her creative practice fresh, “My style continues to evolve, and it is the evolution that inspires me to continue to grow and explore as an artist.”
