Garden of Deities

Item details

18 x 24 collage painting on paper featuring found paper and acrylic paint.

Garden of Deities is part of the Emotere collection which K’era began working on at the beginning of 2020 as a means of exploring the idea of expressing emotions as physical energy. Her aim was to visually capture the essence of the energy caused by various sensations and feelings. In this particular piece, K’era was inspired by serpent symbology and its ties to transformation, renewal, rebirth all of which are beautiful processes however can feel or appear painful at times.

Emotere is a Latin word when literally translated means energy in motion. In today’s world, we often use the derivative of emotere which is the word emotion to express physiological reactions to certain stimuli.

This painting is unframed and ships rolled in a tube. A float mount is recommended when framing.

Mixed-media intuitive painter and textile designer

K’era is a Los Angeles-based mixed media artist and textile designer.

Having previously launched a photographic derived textile company with a fellow designer, K’era desired to return to the art of making by hand without the aid of digital and hi-tech tools. Her mixed media work is heavily influenced by tribal/global textile surface design and mark making. She considers the act of ‘’piecing together’’ her collaged paintings that include found paper sourced from magazines, newspapers and books as well hand-painted paper much like the process of quilting together a story.

K’era graduated from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a BFA in textile design.
