Years ago, I took my now-21-year-old on a mother-daughter trip to the Virginia Creeper Trail. This painting was a reflection on one of the lovely scenes we saw on our gentle bike ride down the mountain. Beautifully custom framed in black walnut molding and non-glare glass. Oil on paper. Paper size: 20 x 16 inches.

contemporary impressionist oil painter

Artist Julia Chandler Lawing synchronizes color and brushstroke to capture the essence of a moment and evoke emotion. Her oil paintings have been called “extravagantly beautiful, spiritual and inspiring.”

Born in Atlanta, Julia moved to St. Simons Island, Georgia, at age 12. The experience of growing up in the Golden Isles instilled a deep appreciation for nature, light, and the wetland landscape.

Julia’s pieces are included in private and corporate collections nationally including Towne Bank and Georgia State university's College of Law. Her paintings have been reproduced and installed as billboards, window clings and sheet metal in the greater Charlotte area.

Julia and her family live just north of Charlotte. When not traveling, Julia paints in her studio at ClearWater Arts Center.
