Abstract
Acrylic on Canvas
36" x 30" x 1.5"

This work is gestural and spontaneous. It is a black and white abstract painting reminiscent of the works of Franz Kline and Pierre Soulages, and Joan Mitchell. The painting is exuberant with an immediacy in the strong brushwork in black and markings. There is has been little adjustment after the initial paint placement and so what one sees is authentic and inspirational.

The sides of the painting are predominantly white due to the composition and the work is signed on the front and back.

Please note that the main image has been taken while the painting was unstretched and in the studio. As well the in situ images are for display purposes only to show the work with suggested frames if desired.

This painting has been created using professional acrylic paint and is sold unframed. It will be sent stretched, ready to hang with a wire attached, and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity

Abstract Expressionist Painter & Sculptor

Joyce is an internationally collected multidisciplinary painter and sculptor living and working in Toronto. While her main focus is Abstract Expressionist painting, she also has a passion for sculpting, painting and drawing the human form for which she was academically trained.
Joyce's paintings are bold and entirely conceptual. She creates with a gestural brushwork to convey emotion and reaction. She begins by randomly applying a heavy-bodied Gesso base to the canvas to create an impromptu geometric design. Using this design as a template for acrylic paint application, she employs large brushes and palette knives allowing the paint freedom to drip while scraping out areas of interest to reveal the underpainting. Joyce has been most influenced by the Abstract Expressionist movement of post World War II America and specifically by the works of Robert Motherwell, Franz Kline and Hans Hofmann.

Over the last twelve years, Joyce has exhibited in solo and group shows within Canada, the United States and worldwide. Featured on several occasions in American Art Collector magazine since 2009, her work is found in private collections in Canada, the USA, and Europe.
