Abstract. Mixed media on board. This piece comes from a collection titled Excavations. I was inspired by ancient sites of excavation where shapes, some vague, some clear are revealed but all mysterious. I've also added Excavations 425, as they can worked together. They are both 60 x 102 cm.

I’m trying to tap into my unconscious. I start painting, with only a loose intention of what I want the piece to be. I want the painting to end with the idea rather than start with it. I might be working with several inspirations simultaneously and so I like people to see different things in the finished work. What interests me is the emotional response to a painting void of depiction.

I am primarily self taught. Although I studied art at a further education college in London, I also had an interest in drama. A three year course at East Fifteen Acting School led to an extensive career in film TV and theatre. It was only with the move to Brighton on the South Coast that I took up painting again, inspired by the expansive sky and ever changing seascapes. The work has moved on from those initial inspirations but I think the Influence of coastal life is still evident in my current paintings.
