For years everywhere I traveled, I collected stones and shells as a way of holding the memory of that experience. I loved the colors, textures and shapes. I stored them in glass jars around my house. I never considered myself someone who could commission an original piece of art - that was for “arty rich” types! Then I saw Fran’s sea and pebble paintings - another stone worshipper! I was drawn to Fran’s paintings because of the colors, texture and themes. After a long time dreaming of having Fran work her magic on some of my stones - I took the plunge! Fran immediately put me at ease - I was now going to be someone with an original painting. Imagine! Fran poured over my stones with me and I told her the story behind each one. She helped me shortlist a varied selection. We worked collectively through a range of compositions and sizes - she never made me feel too picky ( even though I was !). Once we agreed the composition, Fran kept me updated with regular sneak previews of small sections of the piece - just enough to see it develop while maintaining a real sense of anticipation for the big reveal once completed! And when that came my whole family was there, including my son who had picked some of the stones in the painting. We were all blown away and immediately drawn into the painting - The size, vibrant colors and textures draw you into the painting. It is the pride of place in our living room now. And I can’t help but smile when I open the door every day !! The icing on the cake is the painting's name - Dreams Come True. From one stone worshipper to another - thank you !! Xx

Hi, I’m Fran Halpin, artist from Dublin Ireland

Captivated by creative work from a young age, I never let adversity get in my way as I carved a career for myself against all odds.

Growing up in Tallaght, for as long as I can remember I had my heart set on spending life tucked away in a studio brushing endless images onto canvas. I only ever wanted to be an artist. It always seemed like a dream but it never occurred to me to even try and get a job in an office or anywhere else. Focusing my inspiration on the connection between nature and family, I want my creative work to tell a story of how both concepts brings us back to childhood memories – by inviting the viewer to step away from their busy lives and experience a moment of calm.

These authentic representations ask the viewer to pause, step into a calm space and reconnect with childhood memories. My intention is to use fine art to create a sensorial and emotive connection with my audience.

By passing obstacles and roadblocks as a teenager and young adult, I caught a glimpse of my dream artist’s life when I opened the doors to my first solo exhibition in 2018. “I finally found the courage to paint for myself when I decided to throw away the rulebook and paint what I love.” Having gone straight from college to self-employment, I had had enough of creating for other people and realised I had the talent to make it on her own.

Since that showing two years ago, my career has gone from strength to strength. Successfully running two businesses, it’s safe to say I has come quite a long way from the school art room where it all began. Splitting my time across my mural business and personal paintings, I feel lucky that I get to paint anything I like and I actually get to make a living from this. It never ceases to amaze me.

Not one to slow down, the Irish artist is looking toward the future with her next project and release of her next collection. An inspiration to budding creatives everywhere, Fran quotes her mother when leaving us with her biggest piece of advice, “If it was easy everyone would do it!”
