I was commissioned to make four collage paintings for Walter Reed Hospital entry lobby area. The work has hidden collage material depicting Virginia maps, local parks, Gloucester iconic buildings, dates, words, and sayings making up the shapes of daffodils, leaves, and stems. It is my hope that discovering these hidden images within the collage paintings creates a sense of peace and calm for patients, family and visitors to the hospital. Eileen Downes

...the artist who paints with bits of torn paper for a palette.

Eileen Downes is a native of California, currently living and working out of her studio near Portland, Oregon. Always attracted to art, Eileen pursued a career in Graphic Design and Scientific Illustration working for a local Civil Engineering Firm. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Studio Art from California State University, Sacramento, and a Graphic Design Certificate from the University of California at Davis. She has developed a unique artistic style utilizing the mediums of collage, acrylic pouring, and specific layering techniques. She married her high school sweetheart, and they have three daughters and one granddaughter. Eileen comments upon her personal life: “It is the process of creating visually pleasing or intellectually stimulating artwork that is most personally fulfilling for me as an artist; likewise, it is the process of experiencing a creative life as a woman, wife, mother, daughter, and new grandmother that is most fulfilling for me in spirit. I thank the Lord for giving me the gift to create artwork and to share it with others.”
