For the Museum of Ventura County Artist John Robertson documented the destruction of the Thomas Fire that burned in Ventura, (John’s home town) and Santa Barbara Counties. The fire burned approximately 281,893 acres (440 sq miles). The two paintings are 8 feet by 16 feet and were used for backdrops for two other fire related events: a fashion show with clothing created as a reaction to the fire and a poetry reading of poems describing the internal and external reaction to the fire. In the photo artist John Robertson is reading the poem he created about the fire and the paintings.

Meet the Creator

"John Robertson is a primitive, impressionistic painter who may distort an image to make the painting more than a visual, realistic copy of the subject."
