Amy uses a repetition of pattern and gesture to encourage the viewer to contemplate the subtle details that define her work. Minimalist in her approach, Amy presents abstracted natural forms in bold charcoal drawings. Graceful gestures of the hand are captured on paper through subtle marking in pastel. In all of Amy’s work, careful attention is paid to scale and proportion inviting the image to extend far beyond the edges of the paper.

Meet the Creator

Amy Kaufman’s paintings explore a visual language of pattern-based abstraction pushing the relationship between linear repetitions, blocks of color, broad loops and the grounds on which they are carefully placed. The works are studies of scale, proportion, color and media. Her work is included in numerous public and private collections including the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, CA; San Jose Museum of Art, CA; Fine Arts Museums, San Francisco, CA; The Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA; Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven, CT; and United States Embassies in Hong Kong and Singapore. She is represented by Traywick Contemporary in Berkeley, CA.
