Item Details
This beautiful mural at Coit Tower called "California" was made by Maxine Albro. It is a wonderful depiction of the bounty of the California agricultural industry from Mt. Shasta Almond Orchards to Napa Valley grapes. The men and women take different roles: women are picking the flowers, while the men, who are actually Maxine's friends, are boxing oranges. The NRA (National Recovery Act) eagle is found on the ends of the lugs of oranges. Its goal was to eliminate “cut-throat competition” by bringing industry, labor and government together to create codes of “fair practices” and set prices.
