Columbine Mural

"The owner had just renovated this bathroom with new marble tiles and fixtures but they were making the small space feel dark and cold. He asked me to lighten it up and make it feel soft and feminine. The hotel’s surrounding plaza is beautifully planted with flowers, trees and vines. He wanted to carry this feeling into the bathroom space and picked white columbines as the central motif for the mural because they are his wife’s favorite. I used latex paint mixed with metallic glazes to achieve a soft, golden glow on the walls and then painted the over scale flowers on top in pale blue and cream."

Meet the Creator

Kristina loves to collaborate on site-specific murals and mosaic installations. By working with each client to personalize the imagery, color palette and composition for each project, she creates customized work for private residences, commercial venues and public spaces.

The Backstory
Originally from the East Coast, Kristina grew up splitting her time between the US and Canada, where her extended family still lives. She received her BFA in Painting from Richmond College in London. She went on to study art history at University of British Columbia (Vancouver) and illustration and design at California College of the Arts (San Francisco).

Since 2000, when she settled in California, she dove into work as an arts advocate and eventually as Executive Director at Arts Council Napa Valley, elementary school art teacher, gallery manager and curator.

During this time, she also kept a working studio and showed her work in numerous exhibitions throughout the Bay Area. Her work is represented in the di Rosa collection (Napa) among many other private collections. Today, she continues to create paintings, mosaics and large-scale murals for private and commercial clients while maintaining her commitment to arts advocacy on the local level as Curator for the City of Napa’s ARTwalk sculpture program and Chair of the Public Art Steering Committee for the City of Napa.
