Good Wives and Warriors - is the creative partnership of Becky Bolton and Louise Chappell, who met while studying painting at the Glasgow School of Art back in 2001. Rebecca means 'good wife' and Louise means 'warrior', and together they create weird and wonderful illustrations and sprawling wall paintings. They have travelled the world making murals in public spaces and galleries from the streets of Cusco, Peru to The Museum of Sound and Image in Sao Paolo, pavilions in Milan, and gable end’s in Glasgow. They are both now settled in London with little families but still have an insatiable desire to pick up paint brushes whenever they can and paint all over any wall or object.
Their paintings are usually inspired by the natural world, scientific imagery, the social context or history of the space, or working with imagery generated from the story of the object they are decorating. GWAW will paint their detailed illustrations over anything, from chairs to cars, from toilets to tipis and pianos to piñatas. Their experimental collaborative approach to painting means that their lines and paint work will organically grow as they work together as one.
