Prior to the conceptualization we met the refugees at the center, with purpose of getting the right words. The results of this meeting were their two biggest concerns.
The word HOGAR (HOME), represents a glance to the past. The lost home, where they belong and that is part of their soul forever. Home is the origin, the identity.
The word FUTURO (FUTURE) is their biggest concern. They are eager to end the uncertainty they are immersed in, and to know what is coming up. Be prepared to what comes next.
The point where both concepts merge is where they most immediate desire lies. A promising future, and the possibility of creating a new home where start from scratch. A new place where their roots can start to dig out, turning them free people again.
By writing these two words over the center’s main façade, we wanted to welcome the newly arrived, and at the same time say goodbye to the ones leaving. Reminding them that if they just came here is because they want a better future and deserve a home as good as the one they never wouldn’t have to leave behind.
