Two one-of-a-kind handmade monotypes on heavy watercolor paper.
Not "prints" in the sense of digitally produced photographic reproductions or posters.
Although these look like a etchings or block prints, they are cyanotypes, a type of 19th century cameraless photography also known as blueprints or sun prints. I have listed them under the printmaking category of Wescover rather than photography since they do not resemble photography as much as they do monoprints or monotypes made with real plants and ink on a printing press.
Every one of my botanical cyanotypes is an entirely unique monotype as each blade of grass or twig is laid by hand in that exact composition only once. I spend as much time planning and arranging the composition as I do exposing and rinsing the final print. There is no copper plate; there is no ink or printing press to make more than one copy.
If these prints are each matted and framed to 30h x 24w", they will span over 4 feet horizontally.
