Orchard St. - Interior Design

Item details

For Orchard Street I looked to the lines of the late 70’s and early 80’s New York for inspiration. I wanted the apartment to be reminiscent of the LES when Madonna and Keith Haring were hanging out at the Garage, combined with an elevated look that also captures the Yuppie.

The desire was to meld the two and make it ‘work’.

The main living space is monochromatic beige, with a larger block sofa, and pieces by Stéphane Parmentier that have a Sotsass’ Memphis vibe. His Bivio table is decadent, all in leather but with suede insert on the inside of the table base, so beautiful. A unique Saporiti chair from the 1950’s which became more popular in the 70’s with its brutalist style. This piece has very modern lines on a beautiful wood frame covered in linen velvet from Larsen.

Fabrics played a large part in the apartment. The sofa has a washed linen and the lush custom drapery are both from Verellen with hardware by MC2.

I wanted to make sure to include American design and manufacturing in this project including the beautiful metal kitchen hanging shelf unit from Amuneal. They make some of the most incredible metal custom work I have seen in years, everything is hand-crafted in Philadelphia.

The bar stools are also custom from Thomas Hayes studio and the curved lines are 80’s inspired. In the foyer, a pair of ceramic vessels from Jeremy Anderson of Apparatus Studio are one of my favorite unique touches.

The dining chairs are an homage to 70’s Scala and another 80’s inspired piece was the Celeste Chair by Lara Bohinc out of London. This piece sits in the corridor and was one of the first things I purchased as it felt so new ad fresh to me.

The lighting is the Oslo in Alabaster from the incredible Atelier Alain Ellouz, another homage to 80’s travertine trend, found again in the lounge room coffee table. The leather custom straps on the Oslo match the leather in the dining chair piping.

The master bedroom is masculine, luxurious and monochromatic in a rich dark grey. The bedframe is custom and inspired by DeSede’s Terazza, while the walls are covered in LUXE ultra suede by Phillip Jeffries. The nightstands are cement and Oak by Crump and Kwash in Baltimore. A favorite piece is the vintage large scale art deco inspired brass side board from 1982.

All of the outdoor furniture is an Autralian company Harbour Outdoor.
