Item details

“Kurkuma” is a restaurant of Middle Eastern cuisine in a separate room on the food court of a large shopping center in Nizhny Novgorod. The total projected area was almost 600 square meters. The direction of the cuisine here is a modern telling of the Middle Eastern dishes. Taking into consideration the modern concept of the institution, the interior also had to be contemporary and without wearisome ethnic clichés.
Together with this, the task was to make the atmosphere of the restaurant comfortable and cozy for all kinds of guests. The interior of the establishment should contrast sharply with the laconic looks of the shopping center. However, we could not get away from the motives of the Middle East, because then we risked losing the unique nature of the establishment. Then we decided to convey the atmosphere of the Arabian Desert with the help of oriental patterns and materials. For example, metal parts in furniture, partitions and decorative elements are made of brass, which is abundant in the eastern markets.
The bar counter, separating the open kitchen from the hall, we covered with the small tiles that created the Middle Eastern pattern. Over the sofa-bench in the first room appeared light canopies made of cloth, resembling the coast of the Persian Gulf. Central cross-shaped sofas with palm trees in the centre were highlighted with a brass chandelier, pointing them out as the main element. In the far hall special attention is paid to semicircular sofas designed for landing a large number of guests and a table made from a tree trunk over which a light installation is mounted - a scrambled flight of a falcon holding lamps in its paws.
The walls are either finished with plaster, or simply painted. Natural, but modern materials have created a cozy and harmonious interior. The furniture was chosen as comfortable as possible for a long comfortable stay in the restaurant. The decor elaborates in plants, dishes with traditional ornaments and fabrics with Middle Eastern patterns.
