We spotted this absolute unit of a pigeon in a subway station in Seoul, South Korea. He was so impossibly round and puffed up that I had to paint him! There was absolutely no choice in the matter.
I painted him live on our weekly Thursday stream and one of our Twitch viewers named him "Majestic Fat Bird". It stuck immediately because honestly, what else would you call him?!
We later learned the internet has a word for this. He's a borb. If you know, you know. If you don't, please go look it up and then come back and tell us he isn't one!
There's something about pigeons that people overlook. Everyone walks right past them. But if you actually stop and look at one up close, the colours are incredible. That iridescent purple and green on the neck, the soft greys, those weird little orange eyes. They're beautiful birds. They just happen to live in subway stations instead of forests.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Catherine Hébert is a wildlife and animal artist based in Montreal, Canada. She has a background in visual effects and brings that same eye for detail and colour to every painting. Many of her pieces are inspired by real animals she's met. A crow on a hotel balcony in DC, a round pigeon in a Seoul subway station, a pheasant who keeps showing up in her sister's yard in Nova Scotia. She also paints live during her weekly Thursday evening livestream, where viewers hang out, chat, and sometimes even name the paintings!
ABOUT THE PRINT:
Giclée printed on Epson Hot Press Bright White Fine Art Paper with dye-based archival inks designed to last. Also available framed in premium oak frames with tempered
glass.
We work with giclée printing partners across Canada, the US and the UK for the highest possible quality and faster shipping.
Smaller prints ship flat in stiff cardboard envelopes. Larger prints ship in protective cardboard tubes.
Fine art prints can scratch with handling, so we recommend avoiding touching the printed surface.
