bespoke curved bench tops

Item details

Factory Furniture was approached by Consigli Construction to realise and manufacture the designs for a set of bespoke curved bench tops as part of the Canal Plaza redevelopment project in Portland, Maine, USA. The bench tops were designed by Michael Boucher Landscape Architecture and were to be mounted onto previously installed concrete plinths in the Canal Plaza. The bench slats were manufactured from FSC Cumaru with a hidden stainless steel frame and fixings. They were supplied in sections and manufactured to a high tolerance to match the complex shapes of the concrete plinths exactly. The client’s feedback was “It’s extremely impressive to me that the precision was able to be achieved even though the product was not formally field measured and was manufactured 3,000 miles away.”

Specialists in contemporary street furniture design and manufacture for public and private spaces. Our site furnishings combine quality and durability with exceptional attention to detail

Factory Furniture was established in 1989 designing and making hand made custom interior pieces. Our first product, the Serpentine bench we launched with the help of the Crafts Council at the New York Furniture Fair and within a few years we were specialising in exterior furniture.

Today, we draw on our pragmatic approach coupled with our understanding of materials and processes to produce products of consistent high quality with rigorous attention to detail. Our public furniture is still hand-made in house by our experienced, design and manufacturing team, selecting only the best materials for each product.

After 30 years of experience working closely with architects and place designers we possess the insight and experience into the demands of public spaces and the needs of the people who use them. The same ethos still applies as when we created our Serpentine Seat, we design and make street furniture to endure and enjoy
