Relationship Dance Steps

Art & Wall Decor by Stefanie Posavec seen at Facebook HQ, Menlo Park - Relationship Dance Steps
Stefanie Posavec spent a 7-week ‘data artist residency’ within Facebook’s Analog Research Lab in the summer of 2013 at Facebook’s headquarters in Menlo Park. Her task was to create artwork for the campus, so she chose to create two interactive pieces on the floor where she converted a month of a couple’s Facebook interaction data into dance steps, referencing how couples often ‘perform’ an orchestrated, public version of their relationship on social media. The dance steps are timed to an 8-step count, and by following the notation, a passerby can move through an accurate representation of a couple’s digital movements and interactions in the real world.

Meet the Creator

"Stefanie Posavec moved from Colorado to London in 2004 and never went home. With a background in book design and text visualisation, she mainly works as a designer with a focus on data-related design, with work ranging from data visualisation to data art for a variety of clients.

More recently her work has explored engaging with data by moving this digital material into the physical world, either through exploring the act of gathering and drawing data by hand, creating experiential, wearable data objects or through inciting people to physically move or 'dance' through data in a public space.

Her work has been exhibited internationally at the Museum of Modern Art (New York), Centro Cultural Banco Do Brasil (Rio de Janeiro), the Victoria & Albert Museum, Southbank Centre, and Somerset House (London)."
