A beautiful Eucalyptus tree fallen locally in Cape Town is the source of this hand-turned sculptural masterpiece by @rodneyband, measuring 440mm in diameter x 380mm high.
Eucalyptus is notoriously difficult to make furniture out of as it's a true contortionist, bending and twisting when sawn. Rodney's technique of hand-turning and then sculpting by hand to let the wood's true shape emerge allows the final piece to be faithful to the character of the Eucalyptus tree. Natural cracks and the grain of the wood determine the artwork's final form, which in this piece is more sculpture than bowl. A beautiful centrepiece in any space.
