Butterfly "Digitally Embroidered" Art prints

Starts at $150

Creation: 1-3 weeks

These butterfly images are made from "digitally embroidered" photographs and scans of my daughters' and my hair. The series, called "Mariposas," draws on concepts of Victorian hair art, Mexican folk art, and my own maternal instinct for preserving things left behind as my daughters grow. The prints are made on archival Japanese rice paper and available in multiple sizes. For more information please visit: https://www.rianderson.com/mariposas

To see the full "Mariposa" series please visit https://www.rianderson.com/mariposas Custom made butterflies are also available. Please contact me for details.

Radical Beauty: Surround yourself in Art!

Boston born, I am an incurably creative adventurer who relocated to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. As a photographer and designer, I believe in making objects that contain both aesthetic and symbolic beauty. My patterns begin as high-resolution photographs, which I playfully and meticulously reassemble into new forms. The end products are sublime designs of their own, with surreptitious elements waiting to be discovered. I use my very own technique of "digital embroidery," which is a byproduct of my internationally recognized visual artwork, to create these patterns. I manage every detail of design from beginning concept to end product. I am also a master printer, dancer, and member of the prestigious Gravityworks circus arts troupe. I currently live in Mexico with my two daughters whom I have raised biculturally. To view my visual artwork please visit rianderson.com.
