Hanifah Tohir (aka Han) is the artist behind HANmademacrame. Blank walls in her apartment inspired her to make artworks to fill in the empty space. Han turned to fibre art in particular - macrame and created a coastal yet cozy feel to her living space. Since learning a few macrame knots she hasn’t been able to stop. You can meet her in person at her pop stall at the Bondi Markets on Sundays.
HANmademacrame (pronounced: han-maid-meh-cra-mei) came about in February 2018 when Hanifah Tohir (AKA HAN) was in search of artwork to fill her empty walls of the apartment. She had always desired a coastal look for her sanctuary and she had outgrown the paintings she once owned. After endless research, she turned to fibre art, in particular - MACRAME.
With knotting skills up her sleeve and meters of cotton rope, she began her first piece in her living room. Unbeknown friends took interest and started purchasing her one-of-a-kind macrame wall hangings. Han became obsessed with macrame and hasn’t been able to stop. She now uses macrame as her creative outlet and her meditative practice.
