BODY GEOGRAPHY, 2017. Another terrazzo project done with my frequent collaborator, Carolyn Braaksma. We were asked to design a floor for the lobby to the new Clinical Simulation Center at Texas Tech University in Amarillo, Texas. The Center's mission is to teach clinical procedures in a simulated clinical setting where students can analyze their methods (and mistakes) in a safe setting. The design for the project references current clinical practices and draws upon the rich history of medical illustration and imaging. It also includes a topographical map of Palo Duro Canyon, shown as a cut through the human figure. This canyon, near Amarillo, is the second largest canyon in the U.S. Metal fabrication and shop drawings were produced by Kaspari Design and the terrazzo installation was done by Zanchettin Brothers Terrazzo.
